On June 25, 2018, CO-WELL Asia and the POST AND TELECOMMUNICATIONS INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY (PTIT) officially implemented a cooperative training program for highly specialized QA/Testers, who are able to use Japanese proficiently to contribute to resolving women unemployment and the lack of human resources in IT sector.

Being one of the activities deployed by the Japan-ASEAN Industrial and Economic Cooperation Committee of the Association for Overseas Technical Cooperation and Sustainable Partnerships (AOTS) to ensure excellent human resources for Japanese regional companies in ASEAN, the program has received funding from the organization’s “Funding project for Universities funded by the additional budget 2016”.

In the first academic year, the number of participants was 45 students from the Faculty of Information Technology and the Faculty of Information Systems, with 90% being female.

Demand for human resources in Software Testing industry nowadays

According to the current trend in Vietnam, QA/Testers are mostly female graduates of the Japanese language who learned testing techniques as an additional skill.

Meanwhile, in Vietnamese universities, software testing skills have also been integrated into the curriculum of software development or programming languages, however, there is still a lack of courses that provides a systematic training of essential professional skills in this industry. Software testing is a very important part of ensuring software products quality. It helps check and detect problems during system construction. However, most students are still not aware of the value and importance of this work. To meet the increasing demand for Japanese-speaking testers, CO-WELL has implemented many training courses at the company through internships and job fairs …

Nurturing IT talents with CO-WELL Asia

At CO-WELL Asia, in order to nurture and recruit outstanding talents, improve the quality of staff and to satisfy the projects’ needs, we have been implementing many programs in cooperation with colleges and universities in Hanoi and Da Nang. So far, CO-WELL has successfully organized 22 training courses with a focus on programming languages such as Java, PHP, .Net, Python, iOS … and software testing.

However, this is the first time we have implemented a training course on software testing engineers in Japanese at PTIT. PTIT is a national university with 2 campuses in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City with over 10,000 students. This time, CO-WELL Asia provided a training course at the Hanoi campus where there is a relatively high percentage of women in natural studies. Through this cooperation program, we aim to raise awareness about software testing engineers for students and to train Japanese-speaking software test engineers in a short period of time.

With the desire to go together with the social development, it is hoped that CO-WELL’s training courses will contribute to improving the quality of young Vietnamese labor force to meet the international market, especially Japanese market standards, solving the problem of shortage of Japanese-speaking workers in the Vietnamese information technology industry.
